Sensefields installed one of the most specific solutions in our portfolio, “Ramp Metering”, which consist in applying Sensefields technology to control the runaway truck ramps in a highway. This Project has been installed in a highway in the state of Michoacán, Mexico.
The customer is looking to control the runaway truck ramp in the highway. The solution runs the detection of vehicles accessing these ramps and sending the alarm to the control centre in real-time.
The challenge of the Project demanded two basic features. The system must have autonomy 24h -7/365- and, on the other hand, has to send the data in real-time to the control centre. This way, the concessionary can execute the different emergency protocols.
The solution that fits best in the Project challenge is one of the Interurban solutions that Sensefields offers: Ramp Metering. In each section it was installed one magnetic sensor and one DPS (Data Processing Station).
The sensor detects the vehicle that circulates to the runaway truck ramp zone and sends a message to the DPS, that process the data locally and sends the alarm to the control centre.
The scalability of the technology will allow to increase the functionality of the solution, sending direct commands to different devices that complete it, for example:
– Activation command on a camera to visualize the area in real-time.
– Display messages to led panels (VMS).
– Activation of a light signal.
In addition, the system could discriminate if the vehicle has entered the runaway truck ramp or only stopped nearby. It could also collect data of vehicles entering the ramp in real-time (as speed or length of the vehicle), which would allow the concessionaires to take the appropriate and necessary measures for each case.
